BENSONHURST

Although Bensonhurst includes families of many different ethnicities, it is best known for its Italian tradition and cuisine that give the neighborhood a unique character. If you find Manhattan’s Little Italy too touristy, check out Brooklyn’s version in Bensonhurst. The Italian-American community numbers over 50.000, or more than one third of the population. Along 18th Avenue, also known as Cristoforo Colombo Boulevard, Italian shops attract passers-by with fresh pastries, pasta and focaccia. Small local social clubs, where Italian men gather to drink espresso, can also be found in Bensonhurst.
