THE SUBWAY

The New York City Subway is the largest subway system in the world and the only one which operates 24 hours a day. The subway system consists of 26 subway lines and 468 stations; the total length of the system is 842 miles (1355km). A ride costs two dollars, whether you just ride from Times Square to Penn Station or from the northernmost station in the Bronx to Coney Island in Brooklyn. The New York Subway is a world of its own, a world that has its own rules. For a long time, the subway kept a reputation of being dangerous and dirty, and people avoided it at night. A lot has changed since then. Today, the subway is a completely secure way to travel, even during late hours.
