Belmont
is a neighborhood in the
Bronx. The area along Arthur Avenue is known as Little Italy
of the Bronx. Compared to Manhattan's Little Italy, this one
remains the true Little Italy, which means that here on
Arthur Avenue people are real Italians and they speak their
language, unlike in most restaurants in Manhattan. On Arthur Avenue you can find real Italian bread,
real Italian sausages and salami. A fresh food market
and charming cafés attract people from throughout the region.
Although the
neighborhood has a growing number of Albanian and Slavic
people, yet there remains a large Italian population,
among them probably some former members of the mafia. The younger generations,
however, are moving away, because they prefer raising their kids
in other places than the Bronx.
