Morrisania
is a neighborhood in the
Bronx. Many people just refer to the area as the South
Bronx. Morrisania is the site of the infamous Charlotte
Street, which President Jimmy Carter visited in 1977,
declaring the South Bronx to be the worst neighborhood in
the United States. Until the early 1990s the South Bronx was
a symbol of urban decay and destruction, but today the area
has largely been cleaned up, new houses have been built and
crime has decreased.
